The State of Software as a Service (SaaS)
SaaS is yet to take over the popularity packaged software, but the percentage is growing steadily. Accounted for 4.11 percent of total software sales of $352.7 billion in 2012, it is predicted to account for amost 5 percent by 2015.
Nevertheless, you should keep your eye on SaaS for several reasons: It is offering flexibility packaged software can’t, such as the elimination of the need to purchase an upgrade to access the newer, better version of the software. Your SaaS will be upgraded without you paying for an extra. Better yet, SaaS lets you use it on any devices you want, as long as they are connected to the Internet – you don’t need to install on each devices just the way packaged software did.
